St. Kevin Fundraising

St. Kevin LeadershipTeam planned two fundraisers in March. The first was "Privilege Day" which took place on Friday, March 28th and a total of $1,222.25 was raised on this day. The second was the annual St. Kevin Carnival which raised $941.40. Thank you to the Leadership students, Mrs. Ginda and Mrs. Free for all their hard work to make these two fundraisers so successful. Great job everyone! Students and staff had fun at both events and the proceeds go towards helping the people of Nepal with vision problems.

Ukrainian Bilingual Program

Ukrainian Bilingual Program – St. Kevin School

“Ukrainian bilingual program establishes and environment in which Ukrainian is constantly used for the purpose of communication, personal satisfaction and learning. Students are provided with numerous opportunities to learn and use the language in meaningful and purposeful ways to meet their needs, interests and abilities. The Ukrainian language is used to explore ideas and experiences, to construct meaning and to communicate understanding. Effective learning acquisition occurs through the integrated delivery of subject area content, language instruction and cultural information, while fostering in students a positive attitude toward self and others.” (Ukrainian Language Arts – Alberta Learning Program of Studies)

The Ukrainian bilingual Program has been at St. Kevin School since its inception in the fall of 1979. Students are able to work in an integrated Junior High setting with 30% of their day devoted to Ukrainian bilingual courses. These include:

Ukrainian Language Arts
Religion (Ukrainian Catholic/Eastern Rite)
Drama/Oral Ukrainian
CTS – Foods and Fashion

In addition students take part in field trips that compliment the cultural and religious aspect of our program.
